“Good Tidings, A Good Noise Gospel Christmas!” has become Metro Vancouver’s must-see concerts of the Christmas season. With unprecedented sell-outs a full month before concert weekend, you are invited to purchase your tickets well in advance. Good Noise Artistic Director, Gail Suderman, has planned another glorious program of gospel, jazz and soul Christmas favourites, sure to get audiences into the spirit of the season.
Guest Artist: KATHERINE PENFOLD
Nova Scotia born, Vancouver based singer/songwriter Katherine Penfold’s interest in music began with her introduction to Celtic legends like Buddy and Natalie MacMaster, The Barra MacNeils and The Rankin Family. Learning her jigs and reels vocally instead of by instrument, Katherine extended her vocal range, uniquely preparing her to fall madly in love with everything Soul, Blues and Jazz by the time she was in her 20’s.
Storytelling has always been the passion that drives Katherine; regardless of genre she is able to convey genuine feeling and heartfelt emotions with her lyrics. Pairing her inspiring soulful originals with a raw, dynamic voice, Katherine’s vocals are uniquely fresh and real. A singer with a broad vocal range, she can beautifully belt out songs of deep emotion while also drawing you into her inner circle with songs of quiet reflection.
A winner of the prestigious GROOVEFM singer/songwriter competition – Katherine went on to write and record her debut album as well as contribute to tracks on GrooveFM’s Groove Lounge Volumes One and Two.
In late 2017 Katherine signed with Justin Time Records and released Keep Christmas With You, a collection of holiday classics that swing and sway! It features stunning renditions of traditional Christmas favorites with a twist, as well as newer ‘classics’ like Donny Hathaway’s This Christmas and the title track – a Sesame Street holiday staple!
