The Return of Soul Gospel

Double the Soul and double the Gospel for this 15th Anniversary Season Finale, as Good Noise welcomes Canada's Queen of Soul, Dawn Pemberton, and award-winning, JUNO nominated recording artist Warren Dean Flandez to the concert stage.

When Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir artistic director, Gail Suderman put together a concert bringing to the stage the best of soul and gospel music in the spring of 2016, she had an idea it would be popular with audience-goers, but had no idea just how popular. With Canada’s Queen of Soul, Dawn Pemberton joining Good Noise, the sold-out concerts were a huge hit.

With so much more music to explore, Suderman decided to create Soul Gospel 2! – this time featuring the music of male soul and gospel singers. There was just one go-to singer who would fit the bill in joining with the choir to present another dynamic concert – award-winning, JUNO nominated recording artist, Warren Dean Flandez.  And in the Spring of 2017, the response was again unprecedented with a huge audience response and sold out concerts.  Given the popularity of Soul Gospel and Soul Gospel 2, what better way to wrap up the 15th Anniversary Season for Good Noise, than to invite both Dawn and Warren to the Good Noise stage for double the Soul and double the Gospel in the “Return of Soul Gospel.”

Dawn Pemberton, Guest Artist

Vibrant, genuine and soulful, Dawn Pemberton has deep musical roots that take her powerful voice from gospel and soul to jazz, funk and world music. She has become a staple of the Vancouver music scene and can often be found tearin’ it up as a vocalist, teacher, facilitator, choir director and “go to girl” for live performances and studio sessions. A passionate songwriter and performer Dawn crafts her music with a sense of adventure, quirkiness, and serious groove and shapes it into her own unique and dynamic package.

“Vancouver’s Pemberton, a longtime vocalist, arranger and live performer, releases her funky, soul-jazz debut. Her ageless grooves, backed by a wealth of talented instrumentalists, certainly say something. Forecast: Dawn will be crowned the new queen of Canadian soul.”  – Pop Forecast, Postmedia

Warren Dean Flandez, Guest Artist

Award-winning, JUNO nominated Canadian recording artist Warren Dean Flandez describes his music simply as “songs with purpose”. This Yellowknife born vocalist has rediscovered his church roots, reignited his faith and found solace in creating inspirational Canadian gospel music.

“Warren Dean Flandez is sure to knock you off your feet with his wide vocal range and killer beats. Some of the best music of 2016.” (CCM Magazine – Contemporary Christian Music, Nashville)
